I have spent the past 12+ years watching this conflict. And I have asked myself time and time again: if it is clear the System isn't working, why are we still trying to force it to function? It seems that perhaps the best thing to do is just get rid of the System, right? Wrong.
We need library futurists. If you don't know what that is, I'd suggest you stay off the committee. We need to be respectful of each other and accept the fact that if you don't like someone, their ideas are still valid. We need to weed out "administration" from "futurist," because they are not interchangeable.
I expect the next few days will be full of library conflict, and I really dread it. However, libraries need to start standing up for patrons, even if it's difficult and unpleasant. We need to stop being scared and start being futurists.
